From "Let's Give It a Shot" to 125 Workshops and Counting
Eighteen months ago, we had an idea, a passion for plants, and a whole lot of optimism. What started as a small experiment has grown into one of the most rewarding pillars of our business, and honestly, we are just getting started.
To date, YYC Plants and Delivery has hosted over 125 workshops across Calgary, AB, and surrounding communities, including Airdrie, Okotoks, High River, and Foremost. We have welcomed hundreds of participants, from first-timers to plant enthusiasts to skeptics to corporate teams to birthday crews and everyone in between. And every single event has taught us something new.
Whether you are a first-time event coordinator tasked with planning something memorable for your team, or a seasoned event professional searching for a trusted Calgary workshop company that brings something genuinely unique to the table, this article is for you.
Who We Are and Why We Do This
At YYC Plants and Delivery, we started this business because we believe plants bring people together. Not just the people who already love them, but the ones who are on the fence, and yes, even the ones who are convinced they kill every plant they touch. We see you, and we have got you covered.
Our workshops are built on a simple but powerful idea: plants are a gateway to connection. Every event we host is about more than a terrarium or a potted arrangement. It is about creating an experience where people laugh, learn, get a little creative, and leave with something they built with their own hands and a story they will actually want to tell.
That is what keeps us going.
What We Have Learned Hosting 125 Plus Calgary Workshops
No Two Events Are the Same, and That Is a Good Thing
One of the biggest lessons we have taken away from over 125 workshops is that variety is a strength, not a challenge.
We have successfully hosted events in:
Intimate rooms of 10 to 15 people and large-scale events of 60 or more
Corporate boardrooms, breweries, pubs, community centres, and private event spaces
Every quadrant of Calgary and beyond. From the city core to small towns across southern Alberta
Weekday lunch-and-learns, Friday afternoon team builders, and weekend social events
The environment shapes the energy, and the energy shapes the experience.
A workshop at a local brewery hits differently than one in a polished corporate office, but both can be absolutely incredible.
We have learned to read the room and bring the right energy every single time.
The People Who Show Up Surprised Us (In the Best Way)
When we picture a plant workshop, it is easy to assume the crowd will be mostly plant lovers.
The reality? Our participants span the full spectrum:
The plant parent who arrived with a notebook and left with three new care tips
The teammate who signed up because their manager booked it and ended up winning the most creative terrarium
The self-proclaimed plant killer who, by the end of the session, was giving their neighbour advice on soil drainage
Watching someone go from "I don't know why I'm here" to "when is the next one?" never gets old.
At one of our first large-scale private events, a closed terrarium workshop with around 60 guests, half the room was visibly uncertain when they walked in.
By the end, those same people were vocal fans, proud of the masterpieces sitting in front of them.
That moment told us everything we needed to know about what this work can do.
How It All Works: From Booking to Build
For anyone tasked with organizing a workshop and unsure where to begin, here is what the experience looks like when you work with us.
The Booking and Registration Process
We make the registration process as smooth as possible for both the event organizer and the participants.
Once we connect on the details: group size, date, location, and workshop style, we take it from there.
For public workshops, registration is handled through Eventbrite and through our website, making it easy for individuals to sign up, pay, and receive all their event information in one place.
For private events of 15 or more, we work directly with you to customize the experience and confirm logistics well in advance.
We always recommend booking with as much notice as possible, especially for larger groups or specific dates. Popular time slots, particularly Friday afternoons and Saturday events, fill up fast.
Setup, Flow, and Everything In Between
Here is what happens behind the scenes, so your event feels effortless on the day:
Setup: We arrive early and handle everything. Tables are arranged to encourage conversation and collaboration, materials are laid out, and the space is ready to welcome your group before the first guest arrives.
The Welcome: First impressions matter. We set a relaxed, upbeat tone from the moment people walk in. No experience is required, and we make sure everyone knows that right away.
Setting the Stage: Before the hands-on portion begins, our facilitator walks the group through what to expect: the process, the plants, and yes, the permission to make it their own. We want people to feel creative, not pressured.
The Experience Itself: This is where the magic happens. There is guidance, laughter, a few moments of "wait, am I doing this right?", and a whole lot of good energy. Our facilitators are experienced, personable, and genuinely passionate, equal parts teacher, entertainer, and plant ambassador. Expect jokes, a little friendly banter, and the kind of facilitation that makes even the quietest person in the room feel included.
Cleanup: We handle it. You enjoy the moment and walk away without the stress.
Human Connection Is the Real Product
We talk a lot about plants, and we love plants deeply. But if we are being honest, human connection is what drives us.
There is something that happens in a workshop setting when strangers are sitting side by side, soil on their hands, laughing at something that went sideways, that you simply cannot replicate in a meeting room or on a Zoom call. We have watched colleagues who barely spoke discover they have the same taste in houseplants. We have seen teams leave more energized than they arrived. We have watched people surprise themselves.
That is what we are really offering. Plants are just the perfect vehicle to get there.
Our Partners: The Right Venue Changes Everything
Over 125 events have shown us one undeniable truth: the venue is part of the experience. We have hosted workshops in a wide range of spaces, and each one brings its own character:
Breweries and pubs create a social, laid-back atmosphere where creativity flows freely, and people stay longer than planned
Corporate offices and boardrooms offer familiarity and convenience for team-building events, especially for hybrid teams
Community centres and event spaces give us room to scale up and accommodate larger groups comfortably
We love working with venue partners across Calgary and the surrounding area. If you have a space and are looking for a unique event offering that keeps people coming back, we would love to connect.
The Registration Experience: Simple, Seamless, Done
We know that for event planners, the registration process can be one of the most time-consuming parts of the job. Our goal is to take that off your plate entirely. From the initial inquiry to the day-of confirmation, we handle the details so you can focus on showing up and enjoying the event alongside your guests.
For groups of 15 or more, reach out directly, and we will build a custom experience around your goals, timeline, and group size.
Why Variety Has Been Our Superpower
No two workshops are identical, and that is intentional. We offer a rotating selection of hands-on experiences: closed terrariums, open terrariums, potted arrangements, seasonal builds, and more, so repeat attendees always have something new to look forward to, and event planners have options that fit the season, the occasion, and the crowd.
The variety also means we work with a wide range of group sizes, from intimate team events of 10 to large community gatherings of 60 or more. Whatever the scope, we bring the same energy, the same quality of materials, and the same commitment to making it a great experience.
For the Event Planner Reading This
If you are coordinating an event for your company, planning a team-building day, or looking for a creative experience that people will actually talk about afterward, we would love to be part of it.
Here is what working with us looks like in plain terms:
You tell us your vision, group size, and preferred date
We handle materials, facilitation, setup, and cleanup
Your guests leave with something they built, a great memory, and probably a new appreciation for plants
We have done this over 125 times. We know what works, we know how to adapt, and we genuinely care about making your event a success.
