Plant Bingo at the Tavern at Deerfoot Meadows: a Packed Room, and Non-Stop Laughter in Calgary

What Happened at Calgary's Plant Bingo?

On September 27, 2026, YYC Plants & Delivery hosted Plant Bingo at the Tavern at Deerfoot, located at 7995 11 Street Southeast in Calgary. Fifty five guests filled the room for an afternoon of bingo, music, games, prizes and houseplants. Every guest went home with a plant and a surprise bag, and the room was full of laughter from the first round to the last.

If you have ever wondered what a plant party looks like, this was it. Here is how the day unfolded, what made it work, and how you can bring the same experience to your own team, friends or clients.

Plant Bingo is a hosted, interactive event from YYC Plants & Delivery that takes classic bingo and gives it a botanical twist. Instead of walking away with a cheap trinket, winners take home rare and trending houseplants, decorative planters, plant care kits, seasonal plants and other botanical goodies. The Tavern at Deerfoot event offered over $750 in prizes.

Each ticket included reserved seating, hosted entertainment with plant themed games and music, participation in every round of Plant Bingo, one complimentary beverage, and a plant for every guest to take home along with a surprise bag. Guests picked up their bingo cards at the host stand when they checked in, found their seats and settled in.

There is also no experience required. You do not need to know a pothos from a philodendron to play. The event suits seasoned plant collectors and people who are just starting their indoor jungle.

Setting the Scene at the Tavern at Deerfoot

The venue set the tone. The Tavern at Deerfoot has exposed brick, warm glass globe pendant lights, big windows that let in the afternoon light, and long butcher block style tables. Our team dressed the tables in blue and white checkered tablecloths, and small plants, kraft paper gift bags and little red and white flags sat at each seat.

At the front of the room, a prize display of tropical and trailing houseplants turned the space into a pop up plant shop. Pothos, ferns, a long string of pearls in a hanging basket, and succulents in adorable animal shaped planters shared the tables with big mums that added a fall touch. It looked like a garden centre had moved into a Calgary tavern for the day, and guests spent the first few minutes pointing at the plants they hoped to win.

A Packed Room and a Lot of Laughter

With 55 guests, the room was packed in the best way. Friends who arrived together grabbed booths and high tops, coworkers shared tables, and new faces got chatting over bingo cards and drinks. By the second round, tables that had never met were cheering for each other.

Plant Bingo works because everyone plays on the same level. Nobody needs a special skill. You mark your card, you listen for the numbers, and you hope your luck holds. That equal footing is what turns strangers into a crowd, and it is why the room was so loud with laughter.

The hosting kept the energy up. A gold bingo cage full of colourful balls sat at the centre of the action, and every spin drew the room's attention. When a number came up that a table needed, you could hear it across the room. Winners walked up to claim a plant while the room clapped, and more than one winner could not stop smiling as they carried their prize back to their seat.

More Than Bingo: Games, Music and Drop 2 Win

The event was designed as a full afternoon out, not just a single game. Between rounds, guests enjoyed music and hosted plant themed games. One crowd favourite was our Drop 2 Win board, a plinko style game where guests dropped their chips and watched them bounce down the board toward plant prizes at the bottom. The board drew a crowd every time it came out, and guests laughed as their chips zigzagged toward the finish.

Because the event was hosted, guests never had to wonder what came next. The pacing kept everyone engaged, and there was always something to look forward to, whether it was the next bingo round, the next game, or the next prize reveal.

Everyone Leaves With a Plant

One of the details guests loved most was that nobody left empty handed. Along with prizes for bingo winners, every guest received a plant before leaving, plus a surprise bag. That meant even people who did not call bingo all afternoon still walked out with something living and green to take home.

It also created a great moment at the end of the event. Guests gathered up their kraft bags, compared plants and swapped care tips on their way out. Plants vary based on availability, so each guest's plant felt a little different, which sparked plenty of conversation at the door.

Why Plant Events Are Taking Off in Calgary

Plant Bingo hit a nerve because Calgarians want experiences that are social, hands on and a little different from the usual night out. Houseplants are popular, but the real draw is the community around them. People love meeting others who share their interest, learning something new and leaving with something tangible.

Events like this also fit the Calgary calendar. When the days get shorter and the weather turns cooler, an afternoon surrounded by greenery is a welcome change. A plant party gives friends a reason to get together, gives coworkers a break from the office, and gives everyone a chance to laugh.

Book a Private Plant Event With YYC Plants & Delivery

Public events like Plant Bingo are only part of what we do. YYC Plants & Delivery is a Calgary workshop and events company in the plant space, and we host private events for groups across Calgary and surrounding areas.

A private event can be built around the same ingredients that made Plant Bingo work: hosted entertainment, interactive games, prizes, music and plants for every guest. We can bring the experience to a venue of your choice and shape it around your group. Popular occasions include:

Corporate team building. Give your staff a break from meetings with a fun, relaxed activity that gets people talking and laughing together.

Client appreciation events. Thank your best clients with an experience they will remember, and a plant that keeps your business on their desk or windowsill.

Social gatherings and celebrations. Birthdays, bridal showers, girls' nights and friend group get togethers all work well with a plant theme.

Venue partnerships. Restaurants, taverns, breweries and event spaces can partner with us to bring a fresh, well attended event to their room, as the Tavern at Deerfoot did.

Beyond events, we also offer plant sales, delivery, corporate plants and residential plant services, so we can support your space long after the party ends.
