Empowering TCC's Women Networking Event: Mentorship, Connection, and a Shared Plant Experience at the Tavern Collective in Deerfoot Meadows

On September 3rd, 2026, the YYC Plants & Delivery team had the privilege of attending an incredible evening hosted by the Transportation Connection Club (TCC), a Calgary-based social club dedicated to supporting professionals in the transportation and supply chain industries.

This wasn't just another networking mixer; it was a night built around connection, mentorship, and a little bit of dirt under the fingernails, all in the best way possible.

Over 20 women from different walks of life, different companies, and different stages of their careers came together for an evening that reminded us why community matters so much in industries that can sometimes feel fast-paced, logistics-driven, and short on time for genuine human connection.

A Room Full of Purpose

Long wooden tables were set with trays, tools, and glass terrarium bowls, each station thoughtfully arranged with everything needed for the evening's centerpiece activity: building your own living terrarium.

Bowls of river rocks, black polished stones, and pea gravel sat alongside small brushes and layering tools, ready for hands that were about to get creatively busy.

The setting itself deserves a moment of recognition.

Hosted at The Tavern Collective in Deerfoot Meadows, the space struck the perfect balance between relaxed and energizing, with exposed brick, warm pendant lighting, large windows overlooking the city, and just enough buzz in the air to make the room feel alive.

The Tavern Collective's team made us feel completely at home, giving us the space and support to set up a full plant bar and run a hands-on workshop without a hitch. A sincere thank you to their staff for their hospitality, flexibility, and genuine enthusiasm for hosting something a little different than their usual evening crowd.

Mentorship, Meet Moss

What made this night so meaningful wasn't just the plants; it was the conversations that happened around them.

As women picked out their favorite trailing ivy, fittonia, or peperomia from trays overflowing with greenery, they were also swapping stories about their careers, sharing advice, and forming the kind of informal mentorship connections that don't happen in a boardroom.

Someone new to the industry sat next to a 20-year veteran of supply chain logistics, and by the end of the night they were exchanging contact information and talking about coffee dates.

That's the quiet magic of pairing a creative, low-pressure activity with a room full of accomplished women: it strips away the usual stiffness of networking events. Nobody was standing awkwardly with a drink in hand trying to find an opening line. Instead, everyone had a shared task in front of them, choosing rocks, positioning plants, layering soil, and the conversation simply flowed from there.

Mentorship happened organically, friendships were sparked over shared laughter about who could keep a plant alive the longest, and by the time the terrariums were complete, so were a dozen new connections.

We watched hands reach for stones, plants get carefully tucked into place, and satisfied smiles spread as each woman held up her finished terrarium, a small, living reminder of the night to take home and nurture, much like the professional relationships being built around the table.

We are endlessly grateful to TCC for inviting YYC Plants & Delivery to be part of this event and for trusting us to host a workshop for such an incredible group of women.

Watching a room full of driven, hardworking women set aside their to-do lists for an hour to build something with their hands and talk openly about their careers, challenges, and wins was genuinely inspiring for our whole team.
